Clay Fox (yep, sal made a character)

Just backstory, I have other spots to stash the stats.

Clay Fox:

I'm Avalonian, grew up on the southern coast of Avalon watching ships sailing away and wondering, “Where are they going and what are they going to see?” Took up the life of sailing to see the world and all the places in it. But sailing on merchant ships just got him to other cities that were full of other sailors just like every other port. Clayton was looking to see things that were not full of the same docks and merchants and people.

Now, the Explorer's Society was very invested in seeking out undiscovered places full of very bad things and that did not sound like a very wise career to Clay. It sounded like a short career that would end poorly. But not all the sights were in far off lands. There was plenty new to see in Vodacce, Castille, Montaigne and other parts of Theah proper.

Clay left the sailing business and took up traveling trade work on the continent. Mostly buying up whatever a city had to much of and hauling it somewhere it was wanted for a small bit of profit. It is a lot of work, requires a bit of luck to pick the right thing and right destination and if you are talented or skilled, you can make an honest living at it. Clay was not all that talented or skilled and from time to time found himself selling things that were not exactly his to sell to get by. That usually hastened his departure for new places.

Down on his luck, Clay took work as a caravan guard for an expedition on it's way home to Avalon. The team leader was a short fellow from the Highlands called “Old Bob”. He filled Bob's head with stories about his various trips to the far reaches of Theah. This was the sort of thing Clay had been looking for and he signed on as a member of the Adventurer's Society of Luthon. That was Bob's last journey. Age and senility have the old fellow staying close to the headquarters these days. Clay took up with a different team to finally see the world.

That trip did not go as planned. They had every sort of luck that was bad. Supplies were stolen, personal items went missing, food went bad, the team turned on each other and the expedition leader. It was a hard trip and a harder return when the mutiny resulted in most of the expedition being stranded in eastern Ussura. It took Clay the better part of 6 months to get back to Eisen. Another month to recover and travel to Montaigne.

That was where he met Ver. Things happened in Crieux. Clay will tell you that is where Ver saved his hide from a couple serious problems. Ver tells it the other way around. Ver was also a member of the Adventurer's Society. They get along, they look out for one another. Clay thinks it's his job to look after and protect Ver. Ask Ver, and she will probably tell you that she does just fine on her own and is here to look out for Clay.

Whatever happened in Crieux, neither one of them will talk about the details. Neither one of them is eager to return there...ever. Don't ask, it's rude.

So why is Clay in Canguine? He's still a sailor, still a haggler, and still a member of the Adventurer's Society of Luthon. Once in a while they have an expedition that opts to sail out of here and somebody needs to know which locals are trustworthy enough to sail with. That is part of Clay's duty. A couple of of those Adventurer's what mutinied were from here. Clay is also waiting to see if they come home. That is part of Clay's hobby. There is a lot of merchandise that flows through Canguine if some of those goods get sold by Clay (even if he don't exactly own it) that is part of Clay's profession. And then there is that weird lighthouse. Just sitting there minding it's own business. Weirdest thing Clay has ever seen in his life. And that may just be worth sticking around for a spell to see if it does anything.
I don't mind growing old... but I hate growing up.
